The talk did not die down in nine or even nintey-nine days....
This is of course the chapter in which we learn of the One Ring and it's power. We learn of the quest
in which Frodo must undertake. And we learn a little bit about the great Evil and the wisdom and the power
of Gandalf.
This whole chapter primarily takes place in Bag-end, mainly a single room in Frodo's house. It's
really a great scene involving Frodo and Gandalf. Here PJ can really emphasize the power of the Ring
and of the Enemy. I think this would best be done with a few flashback scenes, nothing too deep (deep
enough where we forget we're still in Bag-End). I'd be afraid to show too much in these scenes and then
it'd hurt the great contrast of the tranquility and peace of the Shire compared to the rest of Middle-earth.
Gandalf tells Frodo of how he found Gollum, and how Gollum told him the whole story (lies and all),
this I think should be done in the present, no flashbacks, leave the mystery of Gollum until later.
Gandalf mentions Gollum is of Hobbit roots, so people will be thinking he looks much the same as Frodo,
they will be much surprised! (Those who haven't read the books of course)
PJ must show the power of the Ring, I cannot stress this enough. The Ring is everything, and Gandalf
explains this very well. He tells Frodo that nothing that happens to this Ring is chance, the Ring wants
it to happen! I'm not to sure how PJ will handle the look of the Ring; will he make it glow? I hope not,
it will be gold of course, and perfect...
The throwing-the-Ring-into-the-fire shot will of course have to be spectacular, I'd have Gandalf tell
Frodo to throw it in and Frodo hesitates, Gandalf screams at him to throw it in, finally with a great
whoosh! Of his cloak, Gandalf throws it into the hottest part of the fire. With spark fling about and all,
then a great quiet fills the darkened room, the Ring just sits there with the Elvish runes seeming to
magically appear on the ring....
Gandalf and Frodo
Yeah, not only good visuals but dialogue as well
Frodo
(Gollum) deserves death
Gandalf
Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life.
Can you give it to them?
(Liam Neesan, c'mon!!!) sorry.
1 side note before I leave you for a while, music. I know in the forums you've all been talking
John Williams, but think about it, he'll be working on Star Wars for at least another 7 years.
Open your Ears, there is tons of good music out there!
My bet Eric Serra.
Love his work, if you haven heard it, email me and I'll send you some sound files.
