Cheers to Sam Kennedy at 1up for this story. You can read the original article HERE
At its X06 event in Barcelona today, Microsoft announced a partnership with Peter Jackson to form a new studio called Wingnut Interactive to develop "world-class interactive entertainment."
But perhaps more importantly, Microsoft revealed that Peter Jackson will co-write, co-design and co-produce a completely new and original chapter in the Halo universe in collaboration with Bungie Studios. He will also work future title based on an original property from Microsoft.
"Microsoft has built an amazing living canvas with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, which allows the storytellers of our time to express themselves in a new medium. They have fundamentally changed how people think about games," Jackson said. "My vision, together with Microsoft Game Studios, is to push the boundaries of game development and the future of interactive entertainment. From a movie-maker's point of view, it is clear to me that the Xbox 360 platform is the stage where storytellers can work their craft in the same way they do today with movies and books but taking it further with interactivity."
Look for further details on Wingnut Interactive and these projects as X06 continues.

Peter Jackson's special effects company, Weta FX, are to create the special effects for Marvel sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Most notibly they will be using the advanced motion capture techniques used to bring Gollum alive in Lord of the Rings to visualise the title character the Silver Surfer. Doug Jones will be the motion capture talent bringing the super hero alive. Jones is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having played Abe Sapien in Hellboy. Expect the movie to hit theatres in summer 2007.

Peter Jackson has admitted that he can not find a New Zealand location suitable to film some parts of upcoming project Lovely Bones. The book is set in Norristown, which is a real town outside Philadelphia. Jackson visited Norristown, and states how strongly he feels about filming some of the project on location: Well, we’re used to Jackson’s level of attention to detail, those same exacting standards which lead him to film Heavenly Creatures in all the genuine locations. We continue to await this project with baited breath.

Here are some updates about PJ future projects.
"The Hobbit" is now officially on MGMs production list. Some days ago they released a list with films they want to do in the near future and one of those films is "The Hobbit" planned as a two part movie project. Quint from AICN.com talked with PJ himself about the "Hobbit" rumours and it seems that he is pretty surprised about it because noone from New Line Cinema or MGM talked with him about it. He also said he would like to do it even if his schedule is pretty crowded in the next years (-> http://www.aintitcool.com/node/24456).
Besides of a possible "Hobbit" film (what COULD finally happen now) he will direct "The Lovely Bones" and produce the remake of "The Dambusters" and the "HALO" film and today PJ announced in an interview with AICN.com that he will also produce the TEMERAIRE book series (-> http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30014). To be honest I have never heard about it so I can´t comment it but it´s official now and it sounds pretty cool. So, in the near future PJ will give us a hell of a lot of cool new films...

Some exciting news comes from our gracious hosts TheOneRing.net today. Apparently a ringer spy was able to gather some information regarding New Line Cinema's plans to commence filming the Hobbit. The following is his report: "Please leave my email anonymous as I have some very exciting news to report. I was in New Line's NY offices to discuss upcoming projects when I clearly saw something very intriguing on a year planner. 'The Hobbit' was clearly marked on what looked like July 2007. I couldn't exactly take a moment to investigate the calendar with my audience in the room, but it definitely said 'The Hobbit'. Lets hope this is a PJ project!"
