Universal Pictures will pay "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy director Peter Jackson $20 million against 20% of the gross from the new King Kong movie, marking one of the largest deals ever made with a director.Jackson will share that fee with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, the duo with whom he wrote "The Lord of the Rings" films. The trio shares writing duties on King Kong. And part of the compensation goes to Walsh for producing the film with him.The $20 million advance puts Jackson in the same territory as stars like Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson. There will be no other gross players on the film, which has been greenlit and is slotted for Christmas 2005.Jackson's payday is tied to bringing in the film at an agreed-upon budget. The compensation doesn't include funds Universal will invest to shoot the film in New Zealand. Thanks to Coming Soonfor the story

Message From Ian Pryor
- Submitted by Hamish

Just recieved this email from writer Ian Pryor

Dear Hamish and associated bastards

You do move fast!!

As for the book I am writing about Peter Jackson, I haven't really said much publicly about it yet. My brain is still trapped in writing mode, but here are a few basic details just in case anyone is interested.

The book follows Peter Jackson's career from the first films he made as a child, all the way through to Lord of the Rings.I began doing interviews for it more than 8 years ago. I have been a movie fan for years, and am also a big follower of New Zealand films. I used to review movies for the old Evening Post in Wellington, and have also had features on movies published in the NZ Listener, The Independent in London, and Fangoria magazine. I first interviewed Peter Jackson when I wrote a story about Bad Taste for a student magazine in 1988. Since then I have visited the sets of a number of his movies, and done quite a few interviews with people that have worked with him.

Cheers

Ian Pryor

EXCLUSIVE!! - Two Biographies Are On The Way!
- Submitted by Hamish

This is great news, from a very trust-worthy source, as you can understand the source has to remain secret, please do not contact us asking for her/his details

There appear to be at least two biographies of Peter Jackson on the way.

A Wellington journalist named Ian Pryor is working on a biography of Peter Jackson. In a written interview request obtained by the bastards have landed, Pryor talks of having done interviews for the book in New Zealand, England, Germany and Spain. It appears that his book has not been authorised by Jackson or New Line. Judging by the interview request, it follows Jackson's filmmaking career from the short films he made as a child through to Lord of the Rings. The book is being published by Random House in New Zealand. Apparently an American publisher has expressed an interest in the book.

Also it appears that Tolkien expert Brian Sibley is working on a biography of Jackson, this time an authorised one.

Thats right, you have heard it here first, when more details come in you will be garanteed to hear it.
