Pete Gunter
Introduction
I'm Pete Gunter, welcome to my little thread of the World Wide Web. You may know me as Reno, one of the webmasters of The Bastards Have Landed, the official fansite of New Zealand film director Peter Jackson. I created this website as a dumping ground for some of my work, and to share some of my interests with anyone who cares.
About Me
I'm currently working as a gameplay programmer for Kuju's lifestyle game studio in Brighton. I'm really enjoying the work, and Brighton's a brilliant place to live.
I've recently graduated from Teeside University in Middlesbrough, where I was reading BSc Interactive Computer Entertainment (aka. Computer Games Programming). I passed the course and gained a 2:1 honours degree. The course included a sandwich year, during which I worked for IBM in the Web Tools and Notes department of Hurlsey laboratories.
One of my greatests interests, as my degree choice would suggest, is playing computer games; especially first person shooters. Battlefield 2 takes up most of my online gaming time at the moment, with most of the rest taken up by Elder Scrolls Oblivion.
Most of the modules of my course involved graphical programming, and my language of choice is C++. My projects were varied, covering such fields as artificial intelligence, physics simulations, advanced visual simulation and raytracing.
For my dissertation I wrote a game demo for the GameBoy Advance, and I encourage anyone with an interest in console development to take a look at this platform. You can start GBA development without any special hardware, and there's an active and helpful GBA development scene online.
I also have a keen interest in web design, which started back in 1998, when my friend and I took over running TBHL. Since then we've taken the site from strength to strength and it's now an active web community.
I also enjoy art and design, but this is more of a hobby. (I have to include this so people don't think I'm all geek). I've been interested in computer art since using Deluxe Paint on my Amiga as a child. I'm currently making the transition from Paint Shop Pro to Photoshop, and I'm happy with what I've seen so far. If anyone wants to give me a graphics tablet, I'd be more than willing to take it off your hands ;). Some of my pictures can be found on this website.
Anyway, if you've read down this far, well done! Thanks for taking an interest, and feel free to take a look at the rest of the content. Any comments, suggestions, death-threats or any other mail can be sent to reno@theonering.net.
Bye for now,
Pete Gunter
