Biography: David John Weatherley was born in London on the 1st of March, 1939. He pursued his education to O Level standard at The Quintin School in Regent Street, London before departing England and spending five years abroad in the Canadian Army, reaching the rank of Military Police Seargent (Canadian Provost Corps). However, his ambitions to pursue a career in the military were quashed when he crashed his BSA Gold Flash 650 motorcycle in New Zealand in 1961.

David's thoughts went from the military to acting, and became a professional actor in 1963/64. It wasn't long before he was touring New Zealand, starring in 'Oh! What a Lovely War', followed by another tour with the Clifford Williams-directed Shakespherean play Comedy of Errors. Since those early beginnings, David has made a multitude of appearances both on stage and screen, a large portion of which were made during his twenty years at the Mercury Theatre in Auckland. Some of his most noteworthy roles of the 120 productions he has been involved with include the Royal Command's production of Earth and Sky, and the Maori Creation saga. David has showed his versatility as an actor by featuring prominently on both television and radio, from roles as Bulbous Cauliflower in Worzel Gummige and Jon Pertwee in Home and Away to one 14 month stint at a radio station doing over 2,500 thirty second tracks along with endless radio drama productions.

Through his career as an actor David has seen an incredible amount of Australia and New Zealand touring with various productions and has an enviable amount of frequented places under his belt. Touring with 'Evita' as the character of Peron, David visited Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Honolulu, Brisbane and Sydney; with the production of 'Chess' as Alexander Molokov of the K.G.B Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Melbourn; with Ken Hill's production of 'Phantom of the Opera' Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin and finally Sydney once again with Hal Prince's 'Showboat'!

Some of David's many honours and titles include Master Lodge North Harbour (Auckland), a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, a member of the Postulant Order of St. Stanislas and a member of the Order of St. Lazarus. Though making a brief appearance in The Fellowship of the Ring, David Weatherley has warmed the hearts of many a 'Rings fan with his portrayal of Barliman Butterbur and many look forward to watching his role extended when The Fellowship of the Ring is released on DVD.
