Thank you God (And by God, you know who I mean!)
Reno @ 9:44 pm EST

Wow! TT rules! I don't even know why I'm posting right now, I'm too emotional to make any real sense. But anyway here goes!

I think this film is going to be part of cinema history. Gollum should win the 'Best Supporting Actor' Oscar hands down. And why not? I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but he's a CG character. However this film should remove any doubts as to wether a computer generated character should be eligable for an award. Basically everything you see is provided by Andy Serkis, the voice, the movement, the emotion,... and (if we add all that up) the acting! This is an acted role, not an animated one so what's the difference between this and, say wearing a latex mask?

I'm not going to ruin any of the of the other effects for you, apart from to say that Weta have done another outstanding job!

The battles are handled tremedously. Trust me, if you havn't seen the film then you're not prepared for the scale of them. The Uruk-Hai army still blows my mind just thinking about it!

Right I've gotta stop now. It's getting pretty late, so I should go to bed before I bore you guys!

(if you've not seen it yet/got your tickets, get them now!)

The Two Towers Poster as percieved by www.twotowersprotest.org
Lewman @ 10:56 am EST

Just wanted to confirm how insensitive Peter Jackson is being (as pointed out by the genius people at http://www.twotowersprotest.org) by naming his new film 'The Two Towers' by sharing their first idea for the promotional poster:

Now what do you guys think? This website seriously believes that Peter Jackson and New Line cinema, and I quote:

We believe that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema's actions are in fact hate speech. The movie is intentionally being named The Two Towers in order to capitalize on the tragedy of September 11. Clearly, you cannot deny the fact that this falls under hate speech. We believe that if they will not willingly change the name, the government should step in to stop the movie's production or to force a name change.

Now I've seen the fair share of petitions on the internet that have arose from The Two Towers name, and how they wanted to get it changed, But this site is taking it to new depths!

Do they honestly expect PJ or NL to change the name of the film to be sensitive to the events of September 11th? What are they thinking?

I'm sure Peter Jackson and WETA one day invented a time machine, travelled back 47 years and implanted the idea into Tolkien's head. Something Marty Mcfly would have been real proud of!

I mean I could slightly sympathise with them if say the book had been titled 'The Twin Towers' but as it's 'The Two Towers' I think these nuts really need to have a reality check and concentrate on what the real issues are.

These loonies need to be told how irrational they are thinking. So why don't all you Bastards get in contact with them and let them know how you feel :) Stop them before they try to censor the 1976 King Kong by deleting the entire last part of the film. Which of course has Kong climbing the World Trade Centre due to it not being sensitive for todays times!

Two Towers Reviews
sam @ 10:26 am EST

A few snippets from news stories across the world as The Two Towers rolls into town.

From MTV:- '"The Fellowship of the Ring," an amazement in itself, was nominated for 13 Academy Awards. (It won four.) But "The Two Towers" surpasses that previous epic in spectacle, passion and sheer technological astonishment. It sets new filmmaking standards that will be difficult to meet, let alone surpass. To say that it makes George Lucas' latter-day "Star Wars" films look like mere hand-puppetry would be an exaggeration; but it does suggest the scope of Jackson's achievement. "Towers" is a great adventure, a grand romance and an action movie of unrelenting kinetic invention.'

BBC Films:- 'The (following) action is too densely-layered to explain here, which makes the achievement of Jackson and his co-writers all the more impressive. This is a compact, flab-free adaptation of JRR Tolkien's complex, lengthy book, and it suffers little from following three simultaneous adventures.

The special effects, too, impress. Gollum is the first believable CG character, while the battle of Helm's Deep is one of the finest, most expansive combat sequences ever filmed.

The cast do well not to be swamped by the spectacle. Mortensen again excels as the square-jawed hero, while Rhys-Davies' dwarf provides welcome comic relief.

Unfortunately, with his every attempt at sincerity, Wood's Frodo still looks as though he's going to make a pass at his fellow hobbit Sam. However, Astin rises above this to give a standout performance.

It's his moving delivery of the inspirational, climactic monologue that gives heart to the spectacle and elevates a film it's easy to admire into one it's possible to love.'

And finally, Empire Magazine:- 'It may lack the first-view-thrill and natural dramatic shape of Fellowship, but this is both funnier and darker than the first film, and certainly more action-packed. An essential component of what is now destined to be among the best film franchises of all time. Roll on Christmas.'
