Lord of the Rings News + Competition
Lewman @ 12:26 pm EST

Well looks like tommorow is going to be the biggest day in any filmgoers calander. That's right, for the first time the general public will be able to see LOTR in their local cinema. And boy I can't wait.

I've noticed I've been pacing round the house all day like a lunatic. Counting the tiles on the kitchen floor, scratching my balls... I've been a maniac. We'll how can I not be! For 3 years we've been covering the news on the LOTR project, waiting in antiscipation, and finally it's going to happen. I can not wait! I know I'm going to have NO sleep tonight, but hey! It's what the ol' Bastard does to me ;p Thanks PJ for a great 3 years of reporting, Let's hope you don't dissapoint! :)

Also a little Birdy told me that the LOTR DVD is going to be released on 9th September 2002, no more information is available on this.

Don't go running to this Doctor if you need medical attention! :)
Lewman @ 12:48 pm EST

That;s right... PJ will now be known as DRPJ. Our very own bastard has recieved an honorary doctorate in literature, as well as his partner screenwriter Fran Walsh. So there! :) Here's the full story from http://www.stuff.co.nz

No one doubts film-maker Peter Jackson has a pretty good imagination, but even he didn't envisage that one day he'd hold an honorary doctorate in literature.

"It's actually more than an honour," The Lord Of The Rings director said in Wellington yesterday, after Massey University had conferred honorary doctorates in literature on him and partner, screenwriter Fran Walsh. "I would never have dreamt in my wildest imaginations that I would be given a doctorate one day."

He said he was also thrilled it coincided with the opening of the refurbished former Dominion Museum as Massey University's museum building. "When I was young, the museum was my favourite place," and during yesterday's visit "memories came flooding back".

Dr Jackson likened the building's major refurbishment to film-making. "It's kind of interesting because the dream to make this building the way it is is actually not too dissimilar to making a movie."

At the start, factors such as the huge cost made it seem impossible to achieve, but then slowly it began to happen, he said.

Declining the opportunity to spend the next 20 minutes of the ceremony talking "about the meaning of life", he showed a reel of Rings bloopers and actors and crew, including him, hamming it up for the camera.

Just as he had tried to capture the spirit of Tolkein in the movie, this reel captured the spirit of New Zealanders making it, he said.

An Update!?
Lewman @ 8:36 am EST

Well, what is there to repor ;p A fooking lot, so let's get started ;p

Who hasn't recieved their Bad Taste DVD yet? Well we've been sent some copies from AB, and from first impressions the disc is rather impressive. The Picture is trully a marvel, and the sound, we'll let's just say wow... DTS actually works for it ;p

Here's what Bastard #1 James Pearcey said about it :

Hey,

Eell I got my Bad Taste DVD today so I thought I should mail you with details.

First - The Case

Very Nice, outer plastic cover with tri-fold cardboard inner section. Two discs, slightly weird cd clips to hold them. Nice Booklet, with interviews we've all read before. Cool design and print work on all sides of the case.

Overall: Cool

Second - Disk 1

The movie. Very sweet. The print is absolutely gorgeous, the sound is amazing and the widescreen is pretty sweet too. The Biography on Jackson is all right, it could have been better, silly mistakes ruin this one. Animated Menu's, mediocre could have been a lot better.
The Trailer, you get what you expect. Also the usual crap Anchor Bay Chapter Select stuff.

Overall: Nice

Third - Disk 2

The Documentary. Pretty cool, but again seen it all before. No Menu, just a pic. Could have been much nicer.

Overall: Mildly Entertaining

Overall for the DVD: Alright, could have been great but fell short at the last hurdle.

We will of course be doing a full review of it soon ;p Just as soon as I've got my finger out my ass ;p lol

Well only less than a month to go till the theatrical release of Fellowship of the Ring. I can honestly say I haven't been this excited for a long while ;p I noticed that the BBFC have classified it a PG, and the running time is just under 3 hours. So should be into quite a treat ;p ALthough I'm a little dissapointed with the rating (can't be too gory) I'm sure the DVD release will have an extended cut of the film, which apparently to sources won't be out till the end of August, maybe a little earlier for the US. We shall see ;p

Oh, and you may even see the light of day of a Bad Taste 2 But more on that as we get it ;p
