Rare Tolkien Book
- Xoanon @ 12:04 PST The book is describes as: The Super De Luxe edition of the book was released in 1987 by Unwin Hyman to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first printing as a limited collectors edition of 500 copies world-wide. Each copy is numbered, with this one being #178. Presented in a green slip case, it is bound in a dark green leather, the Tolkien symbol gilt on the front, with an image of Smaug embossed on the back. A special forward written by Christopher Tolkien is included, which tells of the writing of the book, with several early illustrations - especially the original manuscript has been reproduced, At present, I am trying to gain some idea of the copy's value (I estimate at around $US500) This copy is in new condition, and has never been read. We have also retained the original cardboard packaging in which it came from the printer, complete with its own number certificate. The second certificate is found inside the front cover of the book.
