These are pictures of the production dolls you can buy, they are not Mattel's promo dolls. The dolls used in promo shots usually look better because Mattel's photo stylists use carefully handpainted doll faces and handsewn clothing for the promo photos. I haven't seen the December Barbie Bazaar magazine yet but I am willing to bet the LOTR dolls they show are Mattel's special promo dolls made to look their absolute best.
Magma Heritage is a doll dealer in Singapore and they always receive Mattel dolls a few weeks before dealers in the U.S. do. They ship all over the world but I have never bought dolls from them so I can not comment on their service.
Most of the big doll dealers reduce prices so even with s&h tacked on you can probably find a better deal online than in a local store.

True-Hearted Easterling writes: The December 2003 issue of Barbie Bazaar magazine has more details on the Lord of the Rings giftset, as well as a picture (sorry – no scanner). Yes, the magazine really spelled it “Aragom.”

LOTR Monopoly/Trivial Pursuit Info!

Garfeimao writes: I was able to pick up both the new Lord of the Rings Trilogy edition of Monopoly, and the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy Trivial Pursuit today. I decided not to delve too deeply into the Trivial Pursuit game so as to remain a little less spoiled for ROTK. It appears to be both book and film trivia, so I'll just wait until December to get into it.
Anyhow, the real surprise to these stunning games was the contest they will soon be running. The game doesn't officially start until November 2, 2003, but that doesn't mean you can't get out there and buy the games now. They are giving away 1 of 8 different prop swords from the films. I've enclosed pictures of the front and back of the contest information sheet, so you can see for yourself what I'm talking about.

BBC LOTR Radio Series Reissued
- maegwen @ 02:08 PST The CDs are basically the same set issued last year (ie with new intro/outro recordings to each book made by Ian Holm’s Frodo as he writes “The Red Book”) but also includes a special brand-new and exclusive documentary CD with cast, crew, and assorted Tolkien luminaries discussing the recording and impact of the radio series, and contrasting the success it had with that of the recent Peter Jackson movies.
TORn friend Irascian reports: The BBC’s 13 hour radio dramatization of “The Lord of the Rings”, adapted by Brian Sibley and starring Ian Holm as Frodo, has just been reissued in a special “Ring” tinned “Collector’s Edition”. Photos can be found HERE.
