Our book is entitled The Magical Worlds of the Lord of the Rings, by David Colbert. Berkley Books, a division of Penguin Putnam, has just released the book in a fully illustrated paperback edition priced at $13.00.

I realize there are volumes of LOTR guides out there already, but I think David Colbert's book has a special appeal. Colbert has set up his book in a Q&A style that is particularly useful to the reader who is new to Tolkien.

I know I mentioned the cool Balrog Candle Holder a few days ago (Read Balrog Candle Holder? from October 5th), and how I liked it, but this is going way over the top for me. My tackiness meter is in the red zone with these things. Do we really need Nazgul lunchbox and thermos? A Pillars of Argonath snowglobe? How about a Witch King Candle Holder? I say No! But who am I to judge...

..I could use that nagzul thermos on the plane ride to LA this weekend... hrm..

Back in August 2001 I was checking out Sideshow-Weta's wonderful booth at Atlanta's Dragon*Con. Here they had displayed many of their items: the stone trolls, the Moria environment, and lots and lots of busts and statues. As I made my way slowly through the booth, I came to a new item that I'd not seen or heard about, and I was immediately captivated by it. The Ringwraith on Steed prototype statue was on display and I fell totally in love with the exquisite detail and beauty (yes, beauty) of the piece. You'd think that one couldn't find beauty in something representing such a malevolent character! I knew I had to have this piece. [Full Review]
