Art Imitates Life (Imitating Art)

David Baxter writes: Hugo award winning science fiction author and futurist Vernor Vinge wrote a story in 1967 called "The Apprentice" where the protagonist stole computer time from a corporation in order to make a completely computer generated version of LOTR. It has been reprinted in "The Collected Stories of Vernor Vinge". Fans should check it out. It's short but sweet.

Shore Score News

Laurelinthegolden writes: I just received issue #16 of the LOTR Fan Club magazine, and it's reported Howard Shore will come out with a NINE disc set with the complete scores to each movie. 2 discs for FoTR, 3 each for TTT and RoTK, and the last disc featuring unreleased rarities along with commentary from Shore. Plus, plans are in the works to release a two disc live recording of The Lord of The Rings Symphony, and a DVD which includes a documentary on the making of the symphony and a performance by the Montreal Symphony. Looks like music fans will have much to look forward to!

Trilogy Screening in Schenectady, NY

Trilogy Screening in Finland

Joe writes: Due to popular demand Finnkino has decided to hold a trilogy screening in Tampere on Wednesday 28th of July. The two previous trilogy screenings were both held in the capital city Helsinki. The city of Tampere is located some 170 km north-west of the capital and has a population of about 200 000. All three films are TE versions with FOTR starting at 14:30. Tickets cost 6 euros per film. [More]

Figwit Documentary - A Jolly Good Laugh

I went along to the Figwit documentary which premiered today as part of the Auckland Film Festival. There was a good turnout of Figwit fans, and judging by the laughter throughout, they enjoyed what they saw. Even if you're not a Figwit fan, there's a lot here to enjoy for any LOTR fan - the worldwide LOTR culture, the in-jokes, and the way the film makers and the fans play off each other. Mini 'FIDM' Exhibit at Comic-Con!

Primmy writes: An exhibitor friend of mine just called me said (very excitedly) that the most recent exhibit of LOTR costumes that were at FIDM earlier this year will be on display at Comic Con. Each year FIDM, the Fashion Institute of Design, displays the Academy Award nominees for best costuming. She spotted them setting up the display in WETA's area. This group of costumes includes Aragorn's and Arwen's Coronation outfits, the Witch King, an Orc, Merry's & Pippin's uniforms/liveries, and I think, King Theoden.
