Lord of the Rings: The Game

6/29/99, 11:24 am EST - Xoanon

This comes from the cool dudes at Corona now before you all read this I want you all to take a deep breath....and relax. These names are used as simply IDEAS for the creators of the characters to get an initial idea...to start building little statues and wire frame models of what will eventually be the real characters. Now....read on

One of our scouts we sent up into the high country recently returned with some exciting news about the future video games based on the movies and the kinds of voices the programming developers should have in mind while developing the early formative stages for the game's characters. The games will be for the PC and PlaysStation gaming arenas, but the name of the computer gaming company is currently unknown - for the moment. You may commence drooling now.

"The company in question has received a preliminary 'potential' cast list of the films so that they can begin voice casting for the games and preliminary facial modeling. Now this cast list is NOT NECESSARILY the cast of the films, or even necessarily the actors New Line is considering.

"It's a list made so that the voice department can find actors who sound reasonably similar to those on the list and so that the 3D model makers can have a reference for their art.

"Note that even if these will not be the actors that end up in the films, New Line is at least reasonably confident that they're the 'types' their looking for, since the game voices/art will be using their likeness as references. (I say 'as a reference', because the perfect imitation/likeness can't be used legally unless it's authorized by the actor or comes w/the LOTR license.)

"Anyway... now the good stuff. Hold on to your hats and underwear ladies and gentlemen, because some of these are un-f@!#$n-believable...

"(note: my friend told me that some roles had more than one name next to them, which leads me to believe even more that this is just a list of potentials rather than people actually cast)

The Fellowship:

GANDALF -- AL PACINO (!!!!)

FRODO -- ELIJAH WOOD

STRIDER -- DANIEL DAY-LEWIS,
RUPERT EVERETT

BOROMIR -- BRUCE WILLIS, LIAM NEESON

LEGOLAS -- JUDE LAW

Others:

SARUMAN -- SEAN CONNERY

DENETHOR -- HARVEY KEITEL/PATRICK STEWART

THEODEN -- PATRICK STEWART/HARVEY KEITEL

(My friend couldn't remember which was which of the 2 above.)... and that's all my friend told me...
"On the whole... wow! Much more star power than anyone thought! I guess they'll be taking pay cuts for LOTR (or so New Line better hope) ! And finally I heard of something that makes sense for Connery. This explains all the vague LOTR hints and Gandalf-denials his camp has been giving." [Scooped by 'Gwaihir', who owns the only shop in the Elf land of Rivendell where they can rent PlayStations and games.]

Legal Stuff

6/27/99, 9:55 pm EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

It seems that we've been jumping the gun here at TheOneRing, before we found out if we could post that cast breakdown, we didn't see if it was copywrited. And alas it was so we had to remove it. But fear not, Teahnu is working on a very detailed review for you!

Weekly Site Report 6/27/99

Hey folks,

Thanks to Simon Whitaker for this weeks poll question. I didn't get many poll ideas last week, so make sure your sending yours in! View the old polls here.

Have a great week everyone!

Xoanon's Script Report

6/27/99, 3:37 pm EST - Xoanon

Sigh,

As it turns out, my lawyers (corvar) have informed me that we cannot post the script, so I'm going to give my review.

The Scene that I recieved involves Frodo and Galadriel, it's the scene in the book where Frodo see's the Shire in the reflection and Galadirel tells him to not touch the water. Frodo wants to give her the Ring, and Galadriel ponders taking it, that's it.

What this truly is is just some audition dialogue that the casting agency will ask all beautiful women to utter in the hopes of getting the part.

I think there is some beautiful text just in this small section, so that bodes very well for the entire script!
I pass the test... I will diminish and go into the West... and remain Galadriel

LOTR Galadriel Audition Script!!

6/27/99, 3:07 pm EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

Now before we post this up Calisuri needs to do some HTMLing to it first. But there is something I want to say before all this. This will probably be the first and last time we post anything script related on this site, I want to keep SOME things secret and therefore any other scriptish type scoop I get will be reported by me, but it will not be posted.

I feel that giving away too much info is just as bad as not giving away any.
This casting script is not the final thing, PJ himself has said he will be doing re writes. But at least this shows that the missing Galadriel from the cast breakdowns will be in the film. The Hobbit's stay at Lothlorien will then also be in the film (confirming what my spy Yadda Yadda told me)

Another Rumor Shot Down

6/25/99, 10:22 am EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

I've been getting a million emails a day with rumors of this person playing this person and blah blah blah, so when I read that Joshua Cox (of B5 fame) was up for a role, I went hunting

I decided I wanted to hear a 'yes' or a 'no' from the horses mouth. As it turned out I could only get 2nd party confirmation.

I spoke with 'The Joshua Cox Official Fan Club' Representative (now how come there's no 'Xoanon Fan Club' out there?) and she relayed to me the following info:

I saw Josh a couple of weeks ago at a convention in North Carolina. He didn't mention anything about the Lord of the Rings.

Now that doesn't mean he's not involved, that doesn't mean he IS involved, frankly I'm tired of all this, someone from the 'inside' contact me with the list! I know you're reading this!

Tehanu's Third Note: Creativity

6/24/99, 9:07 pm EST - Calisuri

Check out tehanu's new note! As expected, its another thought provoking article to dig your teeth into.

We also have some amazing new fan art. Thanks again to all the people that have submitted their art. Remember, I will accept movies and sounds as long as they are your original work. (So all you 3d animators out there, get to work! heh)

As the fan art section gets larger and larger I guess we are going to have to make some changes to make things load faster for you folks. Look for some changes in the near future.

More on the TV ad

6/24/99, 11:03 am EST - Xoanon

A very sick Xoanon here, (cough)

I recieved this on good authority from sources at Houghton Mifflin, the dudes who made the TV ad.

The ad has nothing directly to do with promoting the film in any way, nor did it use funds provided by anyone connected with the films. It was produced by
Houghton Mifflin Company (US publishers of the works of Tolkien for over 60 years) in association with Ballantine Books (US publishers of the mass market
editions) to promote Tolkien generally, and to promote the new, first time available in the US one-volume trade paperback we at Houghton have just released. The ad (for the moment) runs this week only on FX and the Sci-Fi network during The X-Files and Star Trek reruns.

My spy over at Houghton Mifflin tells me that he'll have more for me in days to come!
