TV Watch: LOTR Themed Wedding

Hannah writes: 'For Better of for Worse', a television program from TLC in which a couple's friends plan their wedding for them, is airing a Tolkien-themed wedding this week. The website tells us that "wedding planner Angie Bloom-Hewett pulls out one of her most inventive ideas yet when she melds the groom's love of Tolkien's LOTR with the bride's passion for pink." Sounds interesting enough. It looks like most of the inspiration is coming from Rohan, as the preview shows some folks looking at Eowyn's white dress online. The episode premieres at 9:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, March 24, and will be shown again on Thursday at 12:00 a.m. EST and on Friday at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Zoo losing a beloved pachyderm

The troubled life of Calle the Elephant, one of the San Francisco Zoo's most beloved residents, will soon come to an end. The zoo has decided to euthanize the 37-year-old, 10,000-pound creature because her health has been declining since October...Her vocalizations were recorded and used in "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," which just won 11 Oscars. "She should have been eligible for an Academy Award," Chan said. [More]

The special effects wizards are involved in a new film I, Robot to be released later this year. I, Robot is a futuristic thriller set in 2035, and stars Smith (Ali, Independence Day, Men in Black) as a Chicago detective investigating a murder possibly carried out by a robot. [More]

Kiwi Oscar winner Ngila Dickson's Lord of the Rings costume design has been ripped off and sold on the internet for more than $40,000. A US businessman bought what he thought was the grey riding dress worn by Arwen (Liv Tyler) in the hit trilogy. US police believe it is part of a film memorabilia forgery scam as none of the original Lord of the Rings (LOTR) trilogy costumes have left New Zealand. [More]

Rain Venue for NZ Oscar-Winner Celebration

This pertains to today's Wellington, NZ celebration for the Oscar winners. Ringer Spy Taniwha writes: The rain venue for today's Oscar Celebration (due to start in Civic Square at 12.00) is the Events Centre at Queen's Wharf, same time. Not that it's raining in Wellington, but just in CASE it was raining right now and likely to remain that way, the event's NOT CANCELLED. Osadia will now perform AFTER the celebration from 1.00pm - 4.00pm, If it rains they might move to the Courtenay Central shopping mall.
