New Zealander builds Hobbit hole

A New Zealand man has built a Hobbit house. Carl Gifford, a stonemason from Wellington, says he used a 10-tonne digger to make the hole. He's put rocks either side of the front door and plans to install a chimney and lantern on top. [More]

This movie was the odds-on favorite, and certainly a perfect Golden Globe winner if ever there was one. But a lot of people I spoke to said that the movie's made "too much money" - how do you like that! - and that the Hollywood Foreign Press (which has suddenly become the bastion of respectability after years of being loony) wanted something more artistic. Thus, their choice of A Beautiful Mind.

Calindy writes: Our office gets live broadcasts of horse racing and today there is coverage of a race meeting in New Zealand. I just looked up at the screen 5 minutes ago to see several Ringwraiths parading around in the enclosure. The horses were mostly dark bay or dark brown, and their riders had pretty authentic looking costumes. The horses' armour looked like it came straight out of the film!
