Sweet Ride: LOTR Themed Car Coolness - Xoanon @ 19:42 PST
King Lamoni writes: I saw the LOTR Chopper pic from the German LOTR Exhibit. I thought you might be interested in my latest LOTR project. Attached are a few of photos. I've been wanting to do this for at least 3 years. I spent two weeks getting it ready for the painting and many months planning and making sketches of it. The idea for the graphics on the car came from two of the banners I have (Arwen's banner for the tree on the hood and elvish graphic on the roof and Gondor's banner for the wing pattern on the sides.) I also have some more pictures on cardomain.com

On the Car Domain site I take the viewer through start to finish. Well It's not all the way finished yet. Just the paint and interior lighting. I still want to do custom rims with Anduril as the theme. And on the interior I plan on having some custom stitching added to the seats to reflect various cultures in Middle Earth. ( i.e. the gold crown on the drivers seat for aragorn, the Evenstar on the passenger seat for Arwen, an Elvish leaf broach on one of the rear seats and on the other a One Ring) I'm also looking at having a couple of ghost images of the One Ring hidden in the blue and the script from the ring hidden in the silver.

Richard H aka 'King Lamoni'

PS If any are interested in getting either hood or roof graphic I have the art work for them at Craig's Customs He does all kinds of vinyl graphics for signs and has been doing custom paint work for 28 years. The hood and roof were done as stencils that I removed after painting around them but they would also make great vinyl graphics for a car, van, SUV, or whatever floats your boat. :-)

The tree and stars were airbrushed afterwards to achieve the results I was looking for.

Hall of Fire 2006 Report & Images - Xoanon @ 21:32 PST

Primula Baggins writes: Wow, I had SUCH a wonderful time and wish to add my thanks to Marcie for hosting the event in her lovely home. The Valar must have smiled on us, because the heavy rain predicted for the Los Angeles area on Saturday October 14th never materialized!

Greeting arrivals in the living room was Kristi's life-sized Gollum statue, sporting an elegant new "Wizard" ensemble in sable and blue that matched his eyes perfectly. The kitchen table was filled with great snacks and desserts, and in the backyard Rohtireth had set up a large tent decorated with wall-sized cloth banners of Rohan design and sparkly lights. Charming!

Kristi's new chocolate fountain made its debut; and it does make absolutely delicious snacks even though it is a bit messy. We'll get the bugs worked out of that and enjoy it again at future events, I hope!

I was happy to see that so many TFers chose to costume and got a shot of a bunch of members in their elven and Rohan finery. Gollum was the most popular photo-op of the evening, as you can imagine.

Rhonda/Meneloth brought her beautiful harp, Michael/Singing Gandalf brought his travelling guitar, and I brought my flutes & whistles; we had fun playing as a sort of chamber music group off and on throughout the event. At one point, "Gandalf" transformed into "John Lennon" (complete with round sunglasses) and treated us to a great repetoire of masterfully-executed Beatles music for enthusiastic sing-alongs.

The Programme for the evening was designed and printed by Nancy/Nenarea, and it is just so beautifully done. Thank you for giving us that memento, Nancy! I'll scan it so the whole Group can see your lovely cover illustration and lettering.

Rhonda MC'd and organized the presentations well, interspersing readings with musical interludes. Several members chose exerpts from LOTR, and this time it seems "The Two Towers" was favored; all of the readings were quite well done and moving.

Tim Callahan chose to read an historic epic poem, Nancy chose some original poems (I especially liked the one about the cats!), and Nicole belted out an acapella duet from "Fellowship! The Musical!" Marcie's parents joined us for a while and were most welcome (especially since they arrived bearing chocolate cheesecake "for the hobbits.") We enjoyed performing "Greensleeves" for them.

We ended up not doing any dancing, really, because it was just too chilly outside although Roh's tent made a great "second living room" for the warmly-dressed.

Altogether, I think the event was a great success and I wish it could have gone on for days! (Work!? To heck with work, we wants more "Hall of Fire"!)

Thanks, "Tolkien_Forever" friends for another great party!

Bilbo Birthday Party in Vancouver, BC - Xoanon @ 11:17 PST
Western Ringers write: Come out, come out, one and all! Mellynannui, the Tolkien group in Greater Vancouver, BC, is having its annual Birthday Party for Bilbo and Frodo.

This year we'll be in Central Park, in Burnaby. Meet/setup time is noonish, with the intent to be lunching by about 1:00 or 1:30. This event is a potluck, and there may even be a barbeque there to cook up some hobbity fare (or not cook it, if one prefers food for dwarves..). Costumes are more than welcome, although not mandatory.

Please email westernringers@yahoo.ca for more information, to get the specific picnic spot, and to get a link to the potluck signup.

LA Baggins Birthday Picnic News! - Xoanon @ 19:03 PST
We are pleased to announce that TORn will hold their annual Los Angeles Baggins Birthday Picnic on Sunday September 24th, from noon to 6pm, in Griffith Park in the area next to the Merry-Go-Round (see below for directions).

We are planning to have three main contests:

1) a trivia contest during which everyone’s knowledge of all things Tolkien will be tested;
2) a costume contest open to all ages
3) and again the popular impersonation contest, where participants outshine each other in their rendition of lines from the movies (this year, including the Award-winning documentary Ringers: Lord of The Fans)

Of course, this is a potluck event, so we need all attendees to bring as much food, drinks, plates, utensils and napkins as possible. For any information regarding the picnic and for food contributions please contact Arwen@theonering.net.
