You Want Your Gollum OUT of the Box? - maegwen @ 22:14 PST
So, you went and sprung for the fancy Collector's Edition of the EE and now you're sitting at home wrestling with that pesky Gollum. How frustrating, eh? Well, thanks to our friends at Tolkien Online, here are a few suggestions on how to get the darn thing out of the box without damaging the packaging.

UPDATE: Another alternative appears to be carefully opening the bottom of the box, and withdrawing the statue without having to damage the foam. (Does this matter??) Thanks to everyone for sending this in.

* * *

Directions for removing your Gollum figurine without ripping open the box:

The foam is glued to the bottom of the box, and there is a plastic zip-line holding Gollum inside the foam. you must break off some foam and cut the zip-line to remove him without damaging the box.

  • Use a razor blade to make a cut in the foam packing on the middle-left side. Take a pliers and tear out a good chunk of the foam (front-left piece is best).

  • This will reveal the plastic zip-line that is embedded into the foam that holds the figurine in the foam. Use a pliers to grab the zip-line and twist to break it using the tension of the zip-line.

  • You may have to break off a few more chunks of foam, but he should easily come out once you have broken the zip-line.

Second Breakfast Food Drive! - Xoanon @ 22:30 PST
FOOD PANTRY TO BENEFIT FROM TRILOGY TUESDAY "SECOND BREAKFAST" FOOD DRIVE

Kathleen writes: Those of us with tickets to Trilogy Tuesday are pretty lucky--most of us could have a Second Breakfast anytime we choose. But many people in the community never even get to have a first breakfast. That's why we'll be collecting non-perishable breakfast food items for St. George's Interfaith Food Pantry on December 16th during our Trilogy Tuesday Line Party at Showcase Cinemas Springdale in Cincinnati, Ohio. Suggested food items include breakfast cereal, pancake mix, syrup, instant oatmeal, Cream of Wheat or grits, Ovaltine, Spam (the meat, not the e-mail), canned ham, bottled or canned juice, coffee, teabags...you get the idea. Just make sure you don't have to refrigerate it.

For continuing coverage of the Showcase Springdale Line Party, log on to and sign up for the party!

Viggo in Argentina - Tehanu @ 14:00 PST
Eduardo writes: Viggo Mortensen will be travelling to Buenos Aires next weekend to promote ROTK, and on Monday morning - November 10 he will be giving an interview in "Cual Es?" show at FM Rock and Pop. The good news for all Tolkien fans out there is that you can get to listen the interview LIVE thorugh that radio´s website website the bad news is that, as you may already know, Viggo lived in Argentina during part of his childhood and, therefore, the interviwe will be likely conducted in Spanish!

Also, in (www.terra.com.ar Terra's website there is a contest going on where they are offering a "meet-and greet" with Viggo to take place on November 10 at the hotel where Viggo will spend his Buenos Aires´stay. Needless to say that the contest is free, the only thing you have to do is to register yourself at that site and cross your fingers to be lucky enough to be chosen!

Check Those Credit Card Bills - maegwen @ 17:54 PST
    Hello!

I, too, had a horrible experience with ordering tickets and was so disappointed when my purchase request on movietickets.com came back as PURCHASED FAILED. Of course, all opportunites were lost at that point.

Or so I thought! A few weeks later in paying our bills my husband saw that our credit card had been charged for the amount of three trilogy tuesday tickets!!! Upon further investigation it seems the information from the specific theater (Chicago) was never recieved back to the website and so that is why the purchase said it was failed. However, after going to the theater and having my credit card scanned...I DO HAVE MY TICKETS!!!

I just wanted to share so if this happens to others they know to look for it.

    Ryann

UPDATE: (11/05) Another Ringer writes in with a similar experience:

    Hello,

I wanted to follow up on the post from yesterday where it is mentioned that someone found out that they had been charged for tickets to Trilogy Tuesday after having been told by movietickets.com that their transaction had failed. After reading this I checked my statement, and lo and behold, I also had a charge from AMC River East 21 for 2 tickets to Trilogy Tuesday. This after movietickets.com had told me on about 6 instances where I actually got through that my transaction had failed. I called the theatre this morning and they confirmed that I have 2 tickets waiting for me.

If this happened at least twice at the AMC River East 21 in Chicago, I can't believe it hasn't happened at all the locations throughout the country that were experiencing the shock to the system brought on by all the ravenous LOTR fans trying to get tix. Maybe a follow up should be posted again, just to give people as much awareness as possible. Quite frankly, had I not read the post, I would never have found this out. I would have missed the marathon after having paid for my tickets, and I would've never known it.

So for the heads up I say THANK YOU!!!! Keep up the great work on the site, I visit everyday.

    Sincerely,

    Ricardo,

    Chicago, IL

Announcing: Ticket Exchange - maegwen @ 10:19 PST
In the last few weeks since Tuesday Trilogy tickets went on sale in the U.S., many people have written in to say that they have found themselves with extra tickets for one reason or another and don't know what to do with them. For some people, eBay simply isn't an option. So, with that in mind, I have a low-tech proposal.

What I'd like to do is facilitate the bringing-together of people who have tickets with those who need tickets. The rest will be up to you. This "Ticket Exchange" will be conducted as follows:

    If you HAVE tickets:

Send an e-mail to maegwen@theonering.net, with the following information:

  • A screen name (For example, "Eorlas the Ticket Seller" etc.)
  • Your real name
  • Theater to which you hold tickets
  • The town and state the theater is located in
  • Number of tickets
  • Face Value of the tickets
  • Any fees incurred when you purchased the tickets (Handling, etc.)
  • If at all possible, I would like a scan of the tickets, but this is not required.

NOTE: You MUST have ACTUAL tickets, not electronic tickets. If you have nothing more than an E-Ticket confirmation page, please do not participate in this exchange. If you wish to participate, please go to your theater and PRINT OUT the tickets before offering them for sale.

By sending this information, you agree to sell this ticket at NO MORE than face value + fees + whatever shipping costs are incurred, if any.

    * * *

    If you NEED tickets:

While I understand everyone's enthusiasm, you must understand that demand far outweighs supply. In order to keep this as fair as possible, PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND the following procedures and guidelines:

  • Depending on the number of "tickets available" e-mails received, there will be ONE POST per day on the TORn home page announcing a ticket opportunity.
  • Posts will be made post-7pm EST, when a ticket is available.
  • You MUST WAIT until an announcement for a theater has been made before e-mailing. It is possible that you will be asked to include a "code word" in the subject line to ensure that you have waited for the post to be made.
  • DO NOT E-MAIL your ticket requests in ADVANCE. THERE IS NO WAITING LIST.
  • Please do not e-mail other TORn addresses, as they will have NO information regarding this project.

I am sorry if it seems that there are so many "rules" about this, but to attempt to handle an influx of mail regarding tickets that are *not yet available* is simply too overwhelming.

When a post is made, the FIRST e-mail I receive -- AFTER THE POST IS MADE -- expressing interest in that ticket will be put into contact with the ticket-holder.

You will do this by sending an e-mail to maegwen@theonering.net, with the following information:

  • The subject line should contain the phrase specified in the home page announcement post. I will be looking for e-mail specifically with this subject line. Anything else will be disregarded.
  • A screen name that can be published on the TORn home page
  • Your real name
  • An e-mail address you can be reached at, or a phone number, if you are comfortable with giving out that information.

DO NOT E-MAIL IN ADVANCE OF ANNOUNCEMENTS, PLEASE. THERE IS *NO* WAITING LIST. By expressing interest, you agree NOT to resell this ticket for ANY AMOUNT higher than what you yourself pay for it.

    * * *

    So, what happens then?

Once the interested party contacts me, I will e-mail the seller and pass on the relevant contact information. I will at that time announce on the TORn home page that the Exchange is concluded. The seller will then reach out to the interested party and make the arrangements for the sale. How the sale itself is conducted, or the manner of the ticket exchange, is outside of our control.

These are all good faith agreements, and I am trusting in the honor of LOTR fans. However, what happens once the seller and the purchaser are put in contact is not the responsibility of myself or TheOneRing.net.

This is the most fair way I can think of to try to help fans get tickets to each other. It is not perfect, of course, but I hope that at least in making the attempt that we can make some LOTR fans a bit happier.

    Good Luck!

    maegwen
